Bread &
Soup Drive

A daily hot meal for young children in Mamelodi — nourishing bodies, building confidence, and breaking community barriers one bowl at a time.

About the Programme

The JCK Life Changers Bread & Soup Drive provides a free hot meal — bread and soup — to young children in the Mamelodi community. For many of these children, this is the only full, nutritious meal they receive in a day.

Beyond the food itself, the programme creates something equally valuable: a safe, welcoming space where children come together, interact, and build social skills. In communities where isolation, family breakdown, and poverty can push children into dangerous paths, the simple act of sharing a meal around a table changes lives.

What We Provide

  • A hot, nutritious bowl of soup served with bread
  • A safe, structured environment for children to gather
  • Interaction with caring adult volunteers as role models
  • Social activities alongside the meal where possible
  • Prayer and a short devotional — feeding spirit as well as body

More Than a Meal

We have watched children arrive at the soup drive withdrawn and quiet and leave laughing and talking. Food is the entry point, but what happens around the bowl is what truly changes children. They discover they are not alone. They build friendships. They interact with adults who show them genuine care.

Confidence is built at tables, not in classrooms alone. When a child feels full and safe, they are ready to learn, to dream, and to become.

Breaking Barriers

The Bread & Soup Drive is deliberately open to all children regardless of background, family situation, or church affiliation. We do not ask questions about where children come from — we simply welcome them and feed them. This non-judgmental approach breaks down the barriers of shame and pride that often prevent families from seeking help.

Daily
Meal Frequency

Hot bread and soup provided on a regular basis — not an occasional event, but a consistent lifeline for hungry children.

Nutrition Focus

Our soup recipes are designed to maximise nutritional value — providing protein, vegetables, and carbohydrates in every bowl.

Social Development

Children build friendships and social confidence in a safe space — the soup drive is a community, not just a queue.

What We've Seen

"A soup drive for young children, providing a full meal once a day while building confidence and teaching socialising skills — breaking community barriers one bowl at a time."
